Forest management certification
Forest management certification is a voluntary act, meaning that the certification process can only be initiated at the request of the owner / manager of the said forest, and represents the assessment of the way the forest is managed, against an accredited standard.
In the general terms, the phrase most frequently used for the definition of the forest management certification is "forest certification". . The action of assessment of the forest management for certification is carried out by an independent auditor, based on clearly defined standards.
With a view to certification, the Forest Stewardship Council ( FSC ) developed a set of 10 Principles and 56 Criteria, deemed as generally valid in the responsible forest management, which refer to the environment, social and economical aspects of the forest management.
On this basis the national certification standards were developed, which detail the general principles and criteria of forest management, through the development of specific indicators and verifiers.
