Forest Law Enforcement and Governance
European Union FLEG-T Action Plan
The action plan establishes a set of actions against illegal timber trade, actions included in seven points that must be implemented by the EU member countries both at domestic level and in relation with EU exporting countries:
- 1. Support provided to developing countries, large wood and wood product export traders
- 2. Activities promoting the legally sourced timber trade (Voluntary Partnership Agreement) with developing countries.
- 3. Promotion of the certified wood products in the public acquisition policy
- 4. Support for private initiative in the forestry field and the wood industry
- 5. Funding of sustainable investment in the forestry field
- 6. Adoption of legislation for FLEG-T enforcement (An important step is already represented by the European Commission Proposal for Rules on the companies placing wood and wood products on EU market).
- 7. Wood sourced in conflict areas
